Babies

Well, the full moon brought babies.  Our Nigerian Dwarf goat Flor delivered healthy twins - a boy and a girl - on Saturday evening.  The delivery was much easier than her first.  She had them out, cut, and cleaned before we could do much for her - less than 20 minutes from start to finish.  Posey and Pep are already running around their pin, and they seem to be doing very well.  Mom is recovering with alfalfa, organic grains, herbs, molasses, and "rest".  After becoming a mother myself, I recognize that the word "rest" should come with quotes.  Flor is busy keeping the babies clean, nursing them (her milks isn't in yet, but based on their "poops" they must be getting plenty of colostrum), keeping them warm, and already teaching them about life as a goat.

We also had another farm-related birth this weekend.  Anna Laura Reeve delivered her and Marshall's healthy little baby girl (Mary) on Sunday afternoon.  We are very excited for them and happy to share the news with those of you who have met her and worked along side her.
